What is the remnant? · I REMAIN

You haven't rejected God.

You've rejected an experience of religion that no longer helps you find Him.

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. You don't have to have all the answers to find a place here.

A word with a story

What does “remnant” mean?

That first coin— I REMAIN— is the beginning of our story. A living branch rises from the rocks. It is still here, and it can still grow.

In ancient Hebrew, one word for remnant is she'erit. It means what remains—those who are left.

In scripture, the remnant often describes people who have been through difficult things and yet remain. Some return to God. Some begin again.

You may have felt overlooked, pushed aside, or simply out of place. That doesn't mean your story with God is over.

The branch

Your roots are still good.

Think of a small branch growing from the rocks. Its surroundings may be harsh, but its roots can still nourish new growth. With care, it can grow stronger and bear fruit.

The Hebrew word netzer (נֵצֶר) means a shoot or branch. Isaiah uses it in a promise of new growth from Jesse's roots (Isaiah 11:1).

For us, that living branch is a reminder: where you've been doesn't have to decide what comes next.

A different kind of gathering

We aren't here to give you another list of things to believe.

We're here to learn how to understand God's word, and how to live it.

We'll ask questions. Look closely at what scripture says. Explore the meaning of its words and the world in which they were written. Learn how to tell the difference between what a passage says and what someone thinks it says.

And then we'll put what we learn into practice—by loving God, caring for one another, and finding more peace and joy in everyday life.

Jesus Christ is at the center of that journey. No one has to pretend to be perfect to begin.
